Harry Reid is Pro-Slavery

Nevada Democrat and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid recently compared health care reform opponents to people who opposed the abolition of slavery. Reid said:
Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all the Republicans can come up with is, “slow down, stop everything, let’s start over.” If you think you’ve heard these same excuses before, you’re right. When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said “slow down, it’s too early, things aren’t bad enough.”
Reid’s wrong. His reasoning is way too liberal; his logic is lousy. The reality is that Reid is far more like a slave-holder than government health care opponents are like anti-abolitionists.

What is slavery? It is synonymous with subjugation, bondage and servitude. It is “involuntary subjection to another or others”, “complete ownership and control by a master”, and “compulsory service, often such as is required by a legal penalty” [ref]. Slavery is the antithesis of freedom.

Slaves often have many freedoms and liberties, such as the freedom to think for themselves, to observe religious rituals, and even to marry and bare children. But the fundamental freedom that slaves are deprived of  is economic freedom: the right to keep the fruits of their labor to use as they see fit, whether to invest or spend, fritter away or put to good use, spend on themselves or on others. Instead, slaves are compelled to labor for the economic benefit of their masters, and their masters’ friends and dependents, rather than for themselves. At the point of a gun their masters rob them of the fruits of the sweat of their brow. Their masters then use that wealth to do as they please, always striving to expand their dominion and increase their power over their slaves.

There is no freedom without economic freedom. With each new government program, tax, bureaucracy and entitlement, Harry Reid and like-minded “liberals” are destroying freedom. Rather than a government by and for the people enabling life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, we the people are becoming slaves to the government, subjugated to the whims of elitist politicians and their bloated bureaucrats. As our liberal-led government reams out regulations and spends itself into oblivion, it taxes working Americans into bondage and servitude. It makes slaves of the “rich” to make slaves of the poor. It makes slaves of us all.

Reid, Pelosi, Obama, and every big-government pro-socialist politician, activist, community organizer and voter are pro-slavery. They are on the wrong side of history, as history itself reveals (another topic for another post, but look at the history of big-government nations, particularly communist nations). It’s time that we all “dig in our heels” and tell Reid and his cohorts that things are already “bad enough”. Next November, let’s exercise the freedom we have left to exorcise all of the pro-slavery politicians.
